Eight Recovery Principles based on the BEATITUDES

by Rick Warren

1. Realize I’m not God; I admit that I am powerless to control my tendency to do the wrong thing and my life is unmanageable. ”Happy are those who know they are spiritually poor.” Matthew 5:3

2. Earnestly believe that God exists, that I matter to Him, and that He has the power to help me recover. ”Happy are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.” Matthew 5:4

3. Consciously choose to commit all my life and will to Christ’s care and control. ”Happy are the meek.“ Matthew 5:5

4. Openly examine and confess my faults to God, to myself and to another person whom I trust."Happy are the pure in heart." Matthew 5:8

5. Voluntarily submit to any and all changes God wants to make in my life. "Happy are those whose greatest desire is to do what God requires." Matthew 5:6

6. Evaluate all my relationships, offer forgiveness to those who have hurt me and make amends for harm I’ve done to others when possible, except when doing so would harm them or others. "Happy are the merciful" Matthew 5:7 "Happy are the peacemakers" Matthew 5:9

7. Reserve a daily time with God for self-examination, Bible reading, and prayer in order to know God and His work for my life and gain the power to follow His will.

8. Yield myself to be used by God to bring this good news to others, both by my example and by my words. “Happy are those who are persecuted because they do what God requires.”
Matthew 5:10

CR Testimonies:

- LaToya Jones

I am LaToya Jones, a faithful believer in Jesus Christ that struggles with unforgiveness, bitterness, and mistrust.
To be honest, I had no desire or intention of joining Celebrate Recovery. I thought that it was for people that had “big” issues such as drug or alcohol abuse. At the time, I didn’t realize that my struggles were just as major and just as deadly. I woke up one morning, and I remember praying and telling God that I was at the end of my rope. It was on this day that He intercepted my path, and led me to CR.

Since I joined CR, I have been able to acknowledge my past hurts, but no longer subject myself to being a victim. I have been able to release those that hurt me, accept responsibility for the harm that I have caused others, ask for forgiveness, and watch God restore relationships. I no longer isolate myself, but pray daily for complete healing and restoration of our family unit. There are many promises that God made concerning me, but would not release until I made room for them by letting go of the unforgiveness and anger. I am now watching the manifestation of those promises unfold. I am operating in a peace and joy that I could never before comprehend. Join us each Monday at 6:00PM for Celebrate Recovery!

- Clay and Joy Johnson

Hello I'm Joy, a grateful believer In Jesus Christ who struggles with mistrust, insecurity, & unforgiveness. I recommend CR to anyone with any issue. CR is helping me let go of the past & press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God In Christ Jesus.

Hello I'm Clay, a grateful believer in Jesus Christ who struggles with lust & pride. Before CR, I was In denial about my hurts, habits, & hangups and in turn, I was unfaithful in my marriage and almost lost my best friend & life partner. CR gives me an opportunity to openly confess & admit my faults. Now every desire I have for a woman, I look for & fnd in my wife, Joy. James 5:16 says “If we confess our sins to one another, we will be healed & delivered.” Pride causes us not to confess to one another. Let’s take off the masks, be real & stop pretending.
